Jack in the Box

He’s a jack in the box

One second in, one second out

A “lover”, a “best friend”

In just one second

I am a marionette

One second suspended, one second crumpled

Alive, or being played

I’ve never been sure

You’re the child in the playroom

One second contended, one second searching

Holding me up, keeping things together

Never letting go

We are the dreamers

One second wishing, one second believing

No hesitations, no shame

Reaching for more

Very charming piece AMRG3 :) The parallelism is effective and (without asking rhetorical questions or stating the emotional distress), you have captured the confusion of "suspended" and "crumpled", of (my favorite line) "contended" and "searching", and finally of "wishing" and "believing". Very nice work. Continue to write and share:) Q.V.
