January 26

While the sunburn in my head

Gets ready to peal

The smooth and time stricken ocean floor

Her body in the midnight water

Or hers in the September twilight

Or his in a lifeless February

Too much room for regret

And not enough for a cherry slushy

Lovers all fall into sleep

with another set of teeth within inches
