Jar of Coins

In the house is a jar

A jar of coins

I used to stare at the coins and think of where they’ve been

I would take the coins out

Look at all the dates

Pennies that started at a bank

Used at a store

Then used to pay for gas

Used as change

Dropped on the ground and forgotten

Quarters that were used as luck during the war

Used to keep them safe

Traveled halfway around the world

Only to be dropped and forgotten

Nickels used to get a soda

Used to bring friends together to hang out

Used to make friends better

Dropped and forgotten

That’s why I collected them

I felt bad for the coins

How naïve

Coins don’t have feelings

Right?

I mean coins can’t have feeling and memories

Coins won’t know when they are forgotten

Or do they feel all alone

Sitting in a jar

I love the way this poem begins, climaxes, then ends back in the jar...great job!
