Jeopardy

Grown and busy I live in a city

Where I don’t know a soul

My time is spent mostly alone

Carry my keys between my fingers

I distrust everyone

Church is empty on Sunday

Except for the homeless begging for scraps

Grown and busy I live in a city

Where people are not bad or good

They are simple ‘misunderstood’

Nobody waves at me

At night my shades are pulled down tight

Sirens never stop

I neither know nor trust the cops

Old men with children turn my stomach with anxiety

Grown and busy I live in a city

Where souls are hardened

And morals forgotten
