A Job On Stage
Adrenaline courses through my veins
Excitement is mounting
I prepare my body, mind and soul
My cue sounds and my goal is clear
I stroll, with conviction, into the light,
It warms my presence and cleanses my consciousness
All eyes are on me
I bring life to a concept written on a page
I embody my character
I study the way my character feels
Though I have not truly felt it
To study the human condition through acting
Is the closest I can come to experiencing true empathy for what I have not felt
I perform and form a connection with an audience
Their laughter
And their tears
To bring forth their emotions and to entertain
Is my goal for each night
Acting is a form of art
A potter has his clay
A poet has his pen
A painter has his pastel
But an actor?
An actor has himself
His voice
His hands
His face
To act and entertain is my dream
To express the human condition to others is my impetus
To feel fulfilled in my performance holds importance
But if all I can manage is to elicit a few laughs
I'll still know that I'm doing right
