Johnnie Mae

Grandma!

I bet that’s what I would have called you.

I’m here

My name is Khyla

and I’m a beautiful person.

I wonder what I got from you

Your smile, your eyes, your beautiful flaws

I wanna know you,

Like you know me

Can you see me grandma?

I see you

In my head, my imagination

You look like your daughter.

She’s a beautiful person too

And even as these tears fall down my face

I want you to know that

No matter what

I would have loved you

I would have loved your laugh

I would have loved your singing

I would have loved your scent

I would have loved your lips as they kiss these

Tears.

Johnnie Mae

Hmmm God didn’t make you a memory

He made you an angel

I hope my smile gave you wings

…Grandma
