In on the Joke

I’m never “in on the joke”
Never have I understood it
The joke lurks on every screen
Selling everything from salt to shoes
Like sugar it seduces people

I’m never “in on the joke”
It always eludes me
Confusion invades me instead
“Sexy” magazine covers
Transform into oddly juxtaposed compositions

I’m never “in on the joke”
My friends giggle uncontrollably
At the sight of a physically fit man
Holding a perfume bottle
I’ve had enough with the giggles and “Oh my’s”
I don’t want to sit there like an awkward duck

I’m never “in on the joke”
It was never “funny”
“Hot men’ in car ads shouldn’t greet me
On yahoo’s home page

I’m never “in on the joke”
It didn’t always bother me
It was like a gnat
I could shoo it away

Now it’s like a mosquito
Leaving itchy bumps
Reminding me of it presence

I don’t want “in on the joke”
I’m with the 1% that doesn’t get the joke
I’m with the Asexuals
Sex doesn’t sell for us
In our community
Cake is better than sex
Place anything next to cake
And we Asexuals will be “in on the joke”
