Jolt in My Heart

It is odd, wouldn't you think,

the birds still sing, the bees still sing

but our love didn't make it through spring.

Graduation drew near, "long-distance never works"

but we can try again in four years...

No thanks I think as my heart aches

I yearn for the reassuring touch that takes

me somewhere new and unfocused

The fuzzy feeling I used to always have

with you.

But I guess I wanted too much and

instead I say, "sure" once I'm gone and

not coming back.

He knows as well as I but the days

have curtains slowly being pulled over them

and our journey has slowly hit traffic and

we are nearing the end, not dead, simply a jolt

In my heart, that I never wanted to start again.
