Journal
They were sick and tired of inequality and lies
So they came together and decided to rise
It was time for change and it didn’t come right away
So that the future generation would have a better day
They risked their lives to fight Jim Crow
So hanging from a noose was the route I didn’t have to go
Brown vs. Board for a better education
So in 2008 Obama could lead the nation
They taught me I could proud of my skin
And didn’t have to be like my people in Gone with the Wind
The preached, marched, and showed incredible bravery
That they unfortunately did not have during the days of slavery
The Civil Rights Movement is still important today
Because races issues still exist even today
But they made easier for me so I would not have to see
Much of the horror caused by this country
So I would like to thank all who stood up for human dignity and rights
That I would be able to reach new heights.
