The Journey

The sun was gone, but had left his footprints in the sky Ships at a distance had every man’s wish on board They, the men, we saying with the mind what they lost with the eye He was about to turn into pure sugar thinking about her That is the life of men She adored him and hated him at the same time But the stillness was the sleep of swords But any man who walks in the way of power and property is bound to meet hate She had groaned but never giggled Did marriage compel love like the sun? A little seed of fear was growing into a tree Plenty of life beneath the surface but it was kept beaten down by the wheels She knew now that marriage didn’t make love Her first dream was dead, so she became a woman She had hated the old woman who had twisted her so in the name of love Soon the impact of awe and envy felt her sensibilities People ugly from ignorance and broken from being poor The young girl was gone and a handsome woman had taken her place She had gotten the key to the kingdom This was the love game
