The Journey

Maybe his touch was not as painful as she thought.

Maybe the burn she felt from his eyes was exactly what she sought.

The burn was not always painful though,

there were the rare instances where his gaze cleansed her sorrow.

His presence was a distraction to what she was holding inside,

she was breaking down and he was contributing to the ride.

Her mind will suffer if he continues to shelter,

she escaped his judgement and continued to handle what life dealt her.

Her smile became lighter,

her skin was brighter.

Her hair and heart were still a mess,

but she gained happiness-she gained self-awareness.
