Journey to Me

I believe:

That there is no proper way to wish upon a star,

To gather courage from a quote,

Or perfect way to see the world.

Dancing in myths of flying horses,

As shooting stars fly from the hunters bow,

I see a world far above

all come to life with a little imagination.

The stars like the fisherman’s hook have always captured my imagination,

For they tell of stories that reality cannot wash away,

For every word is left up to the those on the journey,

And have chosen to believe.

I am surrounded by loving people,

People who have taught me that stories

And play are not only limited to our imagination,

If we work and dream hard enough

To make them a reality.

Stories are a road to freedom,

A road I have walked,

And a road I want to pave for others.

There is no limit of hope or beauty in imagining a

Better world that we want to inspire together.

When I pick up a pen

And paint my own worlds,

Or delve into the pages of another’s,

Or write prose to my heart’s content,

I embrace the hope and joy that is found there.

While horses cannot fly,

Nor can soaring hunters send shooting stars

Skimming across the constellations,

I have learned that

It’s not so much about the figures of our imagination,

As it is about the wings that they give us to follow our dreams.

“The wound is where the light enters you.”

Wise words from the poet Rumi,

Words that bring pain into a brighter light,

A light where we realize our strength

In fighting a painful challenge.

The last four years of my life have been a defining,

A page turning journey,

When a shocking eye diagnosis

Shattered my perceived idea of the world into

A reality where the answers were unknown.

Through that experience I learned that we all see the world differently.

Through my eyes, I sometimes see rainbows,

Refractions of light and what is,

And once I became lost,

Blinded by how that made me different.

Two surgeries later, I still see the world in the same light,

But now there is hope.

Though the light was dimmed by pain,

And my courage shadowed by the darkness I recovered in,

Love was my guiding North Star.

And while I still chase those same rainbows,

Joy and imagination, love and empathy remain that surgery cannot erase.

I am learning to embrace that I see the world differently.

That maybe there is beauty in seeing the world through healing eyes,

And I am inspired to help us all realize the quiet resilience we have inside.

I have learned that fear and anger are fleeting,

Kindness and joy can be treasured for a lifetime.

I desire to be, either through my words, empathy,

Or through the human compassion that I believe is a seed inside us all,

To inspire the world to want to be a better place.

I embrace that I am not on this journey alone,

And I invite you to join me,

To follow the craziest paths of our imagination,

To find courage in our words and in others,

And to embrace however differently we all see the world together.

If we can do that,

Then maybe one day horses will fly,

And the wishes we make on

Shooting stars will one day come true.

Maybe then we will respect everyone’s voice

And words,

And maybe we will see the scars of pain that we hide

As traits that define us beautiful and resilient.

Maybe then we will believe in the difference

That each one of us can make,

By opening our eyes, and following the free paths

Of our imagination,

And by holding onto the beauty and magic and love that

We chose to find and grow and

Define in the world

Today.
