Joyful Melancholy

Oh! What it is, is a troubling task,

to wander this world in a shadowy mask.

Hidden away from a world of doom,

only myself when alone in my room.

"What people don't know won't hurt them", they say.

For me, this is the oath of what becomes "today".

A heart, so hardened and cold, that it's left no option but to cripple.

The tall, weathered tree representing the soul extends its branches to calm the ripple.

Mind separated and psyche torn,

"to give love and joy to all" is why I've been born.

Agree or not, I cannot jest.

I perform my duty, nevertheless.

Engaging in tongue-tied verses with the emotional mind,

the only real "peace" in this world to find.

For my fellow man, I walk the mile,

wearing the same old mask I always have...

Smile.
