Juicy Fruit by Makayla Smith

time is like juicy fruit

sweet…at first….but fades the longer you chew

and no matter how long you bite down

trying your absolute hardest to savor the taste

it gets away from you before you can even think

but it can’t be all bad if you’ve got someone there to enjoy it with

like my friends

who surpass any flavor

and any five pack

and any wad of gum that we stick under desks and forget about

young but entirely to powerful for just anyone too notice

in the event of feeling alone, I have learned how to appreciate them

and in the event of feeling happy, I have learned how to comfort them when they’re sad

I think its crazy how you can find people, despite who we are, who continue to mold us without even asking for help….

so this is cheers to every laugh

….and every phone call

…and that time when tiiwon fell in a bush

…or when I played in the flowers with raddestdad

….and cruising over to jasmine’s every other weekend cause I had to

little things that mean entirely too much…

little things that remind us that if we don’t have our own back sometimes, someones got it for us

if you watch carefully people will show you who they are and won’t even know

it’s up to us to keep smacking or spit it out when we know its lost its “spunk”

so thank you to those who ditched me earlier in the game

‘cause I found even better ones, during your lack of concern
