July 14
July 14 2013
My first love
texted me
12:01 AM
“Happy Birthday Cosette
You’re beautiful and
I really really like you.”
Went out to family dinner
And my parents invited him along.
We dropped by his house
And then got stuck
Playing scrabble with his family
He had to be back home at 10
His mother
Indirectly called me a whore
I wanted to cry
But he gave me
My first makeout session
In the back of his car
And his sweatshirt
That I still wear two years later.

My second love
texted me
8:15 AM
“Happy Birthday!”
And a string of emojis.
Went out to family dinner
at the same restaurant
My parent didn’t think to invite him.
He drops by
We sit on the porch
He gives me flowers
A store bought card
with sunflowers on it
He only signed his name.
As he leaves
We kiss on my porch
and all I think about
Is that I had my first kiss
With my first love
More than two years earlier
in that very same spot.
