June

She died when                                Her love was unconditional,
the sun came                                   but ours wasn't.
back in early June.

When the spring was                      This world couldn't have
supposed to make                           have been a fair place for
everything grow,                               her to live in.

she defied nature's                          So, I'm glad she's gone.
pull; she had long ago                    In a way, she's free;
fallen into a different life.                she taught us all a lesson.

It swallowed                                     Instead of weeping this June,
her soul and                                     I'm trying hard to laugh.
she never fought.                            But, I know it's not fair.

I'm starting to                                   No amount of optimism
think that maybe                             changes that. She
I should stop too...                          deserved better.

Maybe the people she                  Please let June bury me
loved were never                           in red, underneath the yellow and orange voices
hers to love.                                    in the soon-to-be
                                                          summer sky.
Maybe she figured
that out and could't                        Please June, I'd be
stand the dejection.                       happy to die.

Maybe her love was
too good for all of us.
