Junior Again

Junior Again- Mac Ira Throughout my year down South in Brazil we talked every once in a while Although it wasn’t all too meaningful because we were doing other stuff, always. I mean, the internet is really cool and all but when you get a Skype account, You have gotta call me every once in a while And so now I’m back and we can reflect on what’s new. That I’ve changed and you’ve stayed the same A new language, new experiences, and new friends, it was a ton of fun of course. Or maybe you’ve changed, and I’m the one that has remained static. You’re driving a car, went to Prom, and are off to college, that’s just what a junior does. I mean they warned me about that stuff in the orientation meetings a life time ago. “We have seen best friends ripped apart” they said. Pshhhh. That’d never happen to me. My best friend has always had my back But now, I’m not too sure. The times have changed and it’s pretty obvious. I’ve found that happiness doesn’t come from the act of close proximity But rather from an ongoing talk, and its silly how we act right now. I look up in the hallway just to say ‘sup’ to the tallest kid. But now he’s a different guy. It’s like the past 12 years never even happened. But since you’re a senior and I’m a junior again, You’ll be off next year to college And yet I don’t even know what you’d want. I’ve tried so hard to talk about the important stuff with you, Universtiy, Life, and the Future. Like, it seems like you haven’t made up the mind to care. When we do speak, it’s over the most pointless things. Desperately dipping back into the pool of nostalgia of then For something that has no relevance to the now. Or when we play together, the closest we ever get is Through the screens of a computer game, There just isn’t much jostling or excitement or brotherhood there. You’re a senior and I’m a junior again, but we are both the same age, I’m a junior again, and we’ve had a great history So why are we letting it all just fall through? I’m a junior again, but I’ve learned so much in the time I’ve had. And so, I guess your first friends Aren’t necessarily your best friends And it’s killing me…
