Just Off
The Bird flew
But unlike anything I knew
It bent its wings back
As its neck seemed to snap
And as it moved towards the ground
In its jerking, unnatural way
The Bird landed
Then I noticed it did it
Without any feet
It hopped around pecking
Without any feeling
Then as it snapped up a stone
And swallowed it whole
It looked at me once
And I felt so repulsed
I cowered away as I stared
As it eyes glowed with something else
It turned away at once and yet I realized
That day had suddenly turned to night
And my hair had gone from brown to white
I ran home by then, book still in hand
As my eyes watered and the fear took hold
But nothing I did can make me forget
That strange, awful bird I met.
