Just Another Breath

I breathe it in

I breathe it out

the breath of God covering my lungs

I soak it in

I soak it out

the love caring even in the slums

the people watch

the people sleep

they do not see what I have seen

I loved to hate

I hated love

but now I know you loved me

my hands were soiled

my hands were filthy

but you stooped down and understood me

they turned their backs

some turned to me

you never moved, kept on loving

I can’t breathe

I can’t see

I can’t love

without you

you make my very being.

when I look down

and cannot move

you continue to lift up my head

I see the beauty

I see the pain

But through it all hope is bled

A hope with me

I have hands here

This decision is made and I stand by

I will live

I have purpose

In the midst of darkness I have found life
