this is just another grain of salt in the sea
and I say
I say I'm sorry
that the glass speaks to me
in such harsh tones
beyond those which you can see
and I'm sorry
I'm sorry I can't accept your gifts
of honey and beads and pearls
I can't adorn my body
with your words
you're so kind and loving
but all I am is sorry
this is a mess
I'm the one who made it
and I listen and I drink in
what I hear
not from you
but from the fissure in my heart
the space between my ears
I'm sorry because it's been years
and I'm lying in a pit of sand
in the middle of an hourglass
each minute that passes
just adds more pressure
and it seems like at this point
pain is becoming pleasure
and I'm so sorry
sorry that I can't decide
to hear a different tune
sorry that I listen
to words that can only ruin
my reflection
and I'm sorry
(sorry you have to see this)
but there is ink within my veins
and you need to know
what words are engraved
beneath my skin
