Just A Brief Encounter
I stare at you from across the room
hoping I can summon up the courage
to speak words that could
turn into conversations
you glance around
and finally catch my stare
I feel the heat of
my spinning heart beat
maybe you feel it to
the way we both a take in a sharp breath
almost as if we’re
sharing air
come over
my mind calls to yours
I will you to get up
finally you start to stand
and I feel something like hope
flutter in my chest
you smile at me and
I start to open my mouth
but no-
you’re leaving
wait
come back
these lingering syllables
stay in my mind
waiting for just another
brief encounter
