just close enough

dear, you know exactly who you are

call me crazy for still thinking about it after years

something about that night or that kiss

has had me comparing everything to you

you are nothing special or unseen

yet the way that i have to work so hard to earn a piece of your

love and affection

that this in some way defines the i love you

yet you are nothing unique in the way that there shouldn't be

a reason that i can't find better

for sake that we didn't even date; it wasn't even a relationship

you told me that 'if circumstances were different we would be together'

as though you are so naive to think that i would give so much of my life to you

when i had nothing left

you leave me hanging oh so close

but not close enough as if one day i expect

you to wake up with this feeling in your bones saying

'oh my god it is her! it has always been her'

because i have learned that if you are constantly waiting for this

kind of realization

you are going to be waiting a

very

long

time
