Just a face

You were just a face

I didn’t know you

Or your bad habits

Yet I still liked you

But you were just a face.

A mask to put

In front of an idea

Of the person I truly,

Deeply loved

But that was not you.

You were pretty

And I guess I was shallow

To say I liked you

Based off your outward appearance

But that does not define you.

So when I realized

What I was doing

I knew I had to stop

And I finally did it

When I realized

You had a life of your own

And were not who I thought

Yes this would have been nice

If it were to have worked out

But you are not for me

And I am not for you.
