Just A Friend

It's Saturday as I roll into consciousness from the night before

I have no idea what I'm doing today, no plans for the near future

A sense of shallownes begins to fill me as I contemplate how little my interactions with other people mean

Were my conversations relevant? Or do I only engage to hear myself speak?

My negativity continues to cloud my mind and sour my mood.

I walk across the hall into my neighbor's room

Everyone else is assembled, chattering about the game

A smile begins to spread wide across my face and I'm left grateful

Knowing I have friends
