Just Grandma

The year is 1953.

The place is a Jomhouri.

Grandma is sitting on a bench at the park.

The park is like a fresh, sweet apple.

She loves the way it smells dewy during springtime.

She tells great-grandpa that she wants to be a nurse.

But great-grandpa says she is nothing without a husband.

But-- she wants to be a nurse!

That stupid woman.

Slap her.

Slap her because she is being stupid.

She looks up and walks away with poise.

If that were me, I wouldn't be strong enough to.

But that's just Grandma.

The year is 1976.

The place is Tehran.

Grandma is walking home from the grocery store.

Tehran is so beautiful during the summer.

She loves to walk, and marvel at the shadows the trees and leaves make.

But she's a Jew.

That disgusting Jew.

Pee on her.

Pee on her because she is a disgusting jew.

She looks up and walks away with poise.

If that were me, I wouldn't be strong enough to.

But that's just grandma.

The year is 1980

The place is San Jose.

Grandma is in her garden.

Grandma loves to garden.

She admires the way her fruits, vegetables, and flowers grow in the sunlight.

But, she's a terrorist, like the ones who held your people hostage!

That flithy Iranian.

Throw a rock at her.

Throw a rock at her because she's a filthy Iranian.

But yet, she looks up and walks away with poise.

If that were me, I wouldn't be able to.

But that's just Grandma.

The year is 2015.

The place is Grandma's house.

You love Grandma's house.

Grandma makes you food, and showers you with love and blessings.

You wonder how she did it.

How she stayed strong.

You look into her eyes and see the pain she saw.

"Grandma, how come the hate never got to you?"

"Hate only hurts if you let it.

Show them you are better.

Show them you are strong.

Show them you are right.

Those who hate are those who are weak."
