Just How It Feels

It’s in the way I see shapes in the clouds.
It’s how I feel when the sun kisses the horizon good night.
It’s when the bride and groom hold hands.
It’s the first breath from the summit.

It’s in the way I hear laughter at inside jokes.
It’s how I feel when my toes tease the ocean waves.
It’s when a child says goodbye on the phone.
It’s the first view from over the edge.

It’s in the way I watch movies at two a.m.
It’s how I feel when the shorebirds soar overhead.
It’s when my grandfather sorts his photos.
It’s the first crumble donut from the box.

But more than anything,

It’s in the way you look at me from the doorway.
It’s how I feel when we sit quiet and close.
It’s when we talk about today and tomorrow and forever.
It’s the first moment of many.

It’s in the way you say it to me.
It’s how I feel when you say it.
It’s when I say it back.
It’s the first I love you.
