Just one? Not enough.

One thing, one influence, just one

How can I narrow it down to such a limit?

TV shows, movies, books, my mom

Does it have to be just one?

One TV show, a cartoon, it was everything

Well, everything to a young teen.

A superhero with two amazing best friends

Every episode with some sort of moral behind it

We can all be heroes in our own way.

A movie, the recreation of a famous story

Cinderella, but the Cinderella.

The evil, horrid stepmother,

two stepsisters, one more horrid than the other.

Within 16th century France, she is sold but she saves herself.

We girls can save ourselves, who needs a man?

The most heart-wrenching book for me:

A daughter of Cambodia Remembers

It gave me a look into a gory history,

The history of my mother’s country

And it opened my eyes to my culture.

Mom, the best and maybe the only parent,

Smart, strong, independent, and amazing.

Maybe I’m biased, but I don’t care.

A horrible past doesn’t stop a great future.

I can do and be it all, I just have to try.

They all came to influence me

Changed my life at different stages.

And now I am who I am.

I thank them all.
