Just a Question
You asked it with a laugh.
A simple question with a simple answer,
or so you must have thought.
But I respond with the weight of the world.
Heartache and sadness are all I have
for something that could bring merriment.
But for me it's not the same,
never has been and never can be.
I hate to burden you.
You will ask it with a laugh.
A simple question with a simple answer.
I will answer with a laugh.
You don't need the truth,
at least not for now.
It will just hurt too much
and I'd hate to burden you.
