Kapre

A giant lives here

Could you believe that?

Likes to play cards and

Fight with my pet cat

He sleeps, sleeps, and sleeps

Or gambles with glee

He yells at the kids

That play near his tree

The oak in my yard

Is his new address

My lovely garden

 Now looks like a mess

Broken bottles and

Crushed cans and spoiled food

And plastic and glass

All around. No good.

From the high branches,

More junk would rain down

“Stop trashing my yard!”

I yell with a frown

He growls in response.

Then bellows “Says you!

You humans don’t care,

So why should I, too?”

“I care about Earth!”

He doubts what I say.

“Well humans put trash

In my home ev’ryday”

He explains how boats

Would stop near his shore

To fill his abode

With landfills galore

How can I defend

Or justify this?

This news of abuse

That no one should miss.

Do people realize

This world is in pain?

Do not ignore her,

Show her no disdain.

I care about Earth

It’s our planet, our home.

There is nowhere else

Our people can roam.
