KAROKE

(…for AJ)

It took a thousand men to get him to the Mic

And Mike, he stood on the table dancing for joy

Though it would have been better if he had danced

To his heartbeats seconds before the men conquered.

(And Tom, my beloved coward, he shook like a sewer rat in winter.)

Sweet Caroline has one thing with Elton John but

The male couple in the next table will most certainly disagree.

We are talking here of a man who had walked through landmines in

Kuwait before travelling to Cairo to take a stroll under the sea

(See, in his eyes when he is drunk they once saw a dragon spit)

Saying it is as much fun as shooting with his AK47.

And he killed it, killed the next one too

Like he stood on his toe and did a Michael Jackson

Till East Lansing came back to life and love and congratulatory hugs

He even ignored the screen and the lesbian DJ hugged too hard

But we were grateful for the dawn,

For the buckets of beer and for the echo of  laugher.
