Kate
Would you let me ponder the ways
I love thee, on this mid-summer day?
Tis not a dream, like I thought it was
The couple of years with which you have blessed me
But tis magic of the best sort
A powerful blissful dream come true indeed
With the nightmares in the past destroyed
By the radiance of your smile and the beauty of your laugh
Darkness does not exist when you lead the way
Down this path of life so twisting and varying
With your hand fixed at my side
I have eyes that see what is there I have ears that hear what is said.
Whether together or apart
I want you to find peace and happiness
To follow your heart and where it says to go
To stay true to yourself and live the life you want.
The girl troubled in the past is not the young woman persevering in the present
Strength beyond belief
Love beyond measure
Forgiveness beyond depth
Heart beyond life
But she is not the woman thriving in the future
For she will look back in the mirror and understand her and love her, but not know her.
I promise to love thee through the growth and the withering
Beyond the beauty of you as a flower
Rather keep loving your beauty as a marble
Flowers last the shortest time
Not true for the marble, which once made stays the same
The individual beauty seen through the glass exterior
The swirls and dots of different colors
Yours of the beautiful warm color spectrum.
These marbles colliding two summers ago
Though now not the same ones running from the past
Different yet the same
Though a lot has changed in this one ninth of our lives
We can stay the same, yet become different again
We can make it through the change that comes flying at us as summer closes.
If this is in fact a dream
Which it still may be
For I am not convinced of the beauty of this reality
Do not wake me
I want to sleep
In fact, I would rather not wake
If this is in fact not reality but a fictional state.
