Keep me afloat

A yellow balloon

Just floating around

Drifting to new and different places

I was afloat

I didn’t realize what pain was

Until needles pierced my flesh

My heart

I bled as I cried

Thinking that heartbreak

Was the way to die

As i fell

Deflated

Unfulfilled

I grew to learn that this

Was a part of life

Inevitable

Happiness escaped me

And as I sprawled on the ground

Stepped on

Rained on by thoughts

And visions of the past

Something snapped

I whispered the words to myself

And they sang and vibrated in my ears

“I love you”

I loved who I was

I love who I am

I embraced myself as the world spun

Happiness expanded inside of my heart

broken but happy

I became fulfilled again

Because in this mess of a world

I was able to find

Internal

Genuine happiness

From myself

And that was when I knew

That I wasn’t a child anymore

I was floating

with a purpose.
