Keep swinging
There I was, sitting in the corner of a tiny dark room, asking myself the same daunting question “what is the point to all of this?” Wake up before sunrise every single day, put that hideous uniform on and spend ten to twelve hours at work earning minimum wage at a detestable job just to pay for the room I’m staying in that is shared with three other guys for another month. This unnerving question was hunting me for months now and it was impossible to hide from its sight. Not able to find rest in my dreams, I’ve decided to take a walk to my favorite place. It was dark, and climbing the hill proved itself difficult, but it wasn’t the first time for me, it was always worth the effort. Half an hour later I was standing, admiring thousands of tiny lights flickering like dancing stars covering the city of angels. It was the sweetest feeling of freedom standing on top of that steep hill. In the moment of peace, I’ve decided to bring some clarity into my head. “I can’t lie to myself and pretend that my life is an American dream,” I said. No, it was probably as far as it could get from it. I have to find an answer to how to move forward. I can forever make excuses and say about how difficult it was to come to this country on my own without family and friends, or how difficult it was perfecting my language and minimizing my accent to an absolute minimum, or talk about those days when I was homeless. But what immigrant didn’t have those difficulties? No, I have to be completely transparent with myself if I want to get a chance to get out of that misery I put myself in. There are changes that need to be made, and I was determined to make it happen.
First of all, I stop lying to myself about everything. If there something I don’t like about my life, I have to make a change. I need to make goals, analyze problems that stay in my way to achieve them, design a way to overcome those obstacles, and implement them into my life. This formula came from my hero, and the person I will always look up to Ray Dalio. Applying this to my everyday life changes almost every aspect of my it, I found a better paying job, start saving extra capital for future expenditures, and found meaningful work and relationships with others. Applying these techniques allowed me in just a few years to buy my dream car, find beautiful women that I married to, and obtain true friendship. Just like that hill that was hard to climb up to, I have to do the challenging part first in order to get a reward.
Following the steps of my hero Ray Dalio I’ve decided to get to know the world of finance. Slowly but surely I began to collect knowledge employing multiple different avenues of information. I read a vast variety of books, research articles, and watched tv broadcast like Bloomberg. It hadn’t come to me to pursue my hobby to such a degree. Once the idea crossed my mind developing a love for finance especially investment started to flourish deeply in me. Though there were many setbacks, finance still called to me, every triumph made my heart sing. What started out as a quick and easy way to make a little bit of money quickly developed into one of the most important aspects of my life. Now I desire to further understand and push myself into the world risk and investment banking. All in all, it’s pointless to set goals if you’re not going to try to hit them.
