Keeping Faith
In another life far different
than this, an angel lived.
The blackest of olives
could not compare to the nature
of her hair,
As long as a summer’s day.
Lips kissed by carnations,
With skin so fair.
Her eyes twinkled with an emerald
stare.
Every suitor galloped just
to catch this fallen
angel
as
she
fell.
But alas, the suitors shy away!
For every angel is guarded,
locked away to conserve,
the purity of what’s left
in this world.
To soil this purity is a sin
against God with a soul so precious!
So sad to think this light to be
Prisoner, to also be preserved!
Alone she sits, singing aloud
her window to the heavens
Her father ever vigilant,
she weeps.
Fate heard her cries and dealt
her hand.
A musician in the course
of his travels
stumbles upon a songbird!
Her voice he could’ve sworn,
awakened his heart.
Light with his fingers,
he took his pipe,
With his heart he played his love
Embedded in every note.
Until his precious muse
paused her siren sound.
What is this piper? From where did he come she stares?
This stranger engaging in song with me,
Do I partake?
