Kennedy
if i had known
the one thing i needed
was coming in a day
i wouldn't have managled my body apart
tearing at my flesh, my heart, my veins
breaking down my spirits, my hope
instead
i would have taken a walk
and enjoyed the autumn breeze
and taken a breath
if i had known
the one thing i needed
would light up a world i didn't know existed
i wouldn't have let people trample me
dim my inner light
shove me down
i would have stood my ground
if i had known
the one thing i needed
would give me a reason to live
i wouldn't have hidden my mother from my friends
embarrassed by her frame
a frame that i didn't know
held the most important thing to ever walk this Earth
Kennedy
my love
i never knew how much i needed you
until your small hand touched my skin
your cry lit up my life
my heart grew that day
and had i known you were coming
that it would be you
and not someone else
i could have changed a lot of things
i could have waited to ask for help
i could have waited to love myself
i could have waited to accept the truths around me
i could have waited for you to experience
this new world
that opened up around me
but had i changed a single thing
had i made a single dent in the time-space continuum
i may not have been led
the one place i needed to be.
i may not have received
the one thing i needed.
