The Key

When I looked at me

What did I see?

But a lonesome girl

With no personality

Then I came across

This thing called poetry

And read Ego Trippin’

By Nikki Giovanni

Only to realize

I wanted to be set free

To express myself

In an expressionless community

For months I tried

To find the key

To dig deep within

The depths of me

For months I searched unsuccessfully

I wanted so bad

To be unique

But it wasn’t until

My emotions were brewing

That my poetry flowed out

Like a beautiful symphony
