From Kid to King

My parents always supported my dreams, I’m blessed

But in school I haven’t always done my best

Procrastinating and cramming for tests

Only to receive and average grade and feel stressed

I used to think that things just happened

If life was a ship, fate was the Captain

I was just here, not in control

Going through everyday just playing my role

But that all changed when I switched my major

The effects of which, well I’ll get to that later

I took control of my future for the first time

And that’s when I realized, this life is mine

I started reading books to motivate and inspire

Because inside of me there had always been a fire

Now it was time to act, go get what is mine

It’s a slow process, but I’ve got nothing but time

Call my parents every week like I always do

We exchange words, maybe a story or two

But things have been different, their tones are new

Now they ask “After graduation, what are you going to do”

That’s when I realized the next chapter was up to me

After years of following rules I was finally free

Like Simba I just couldn’t wait

I always felt I was destined to be great

It was in college my parents let go of my hand

And set me free to formulate my own plan

I’m cooking up something, my skill are in the pan

I’m on a journey to become a great man
