The Kid in Us

Play toys on the floor

Feathers in the air

Pillows

Blocks I didn’t build

Moments never felt

Memories

I forgot to never change my mind

But kids never play outside

Until now

We built the air

We built the sky

We are the birds

And we fly high

But growing into butterflies

Doesn't mean we have to fly

We will laugh and frown again

Fireside nights and the beat of kites

Back through time

Back into our eyes

Sticks and stones and ice cream cones

I’m 18 now; I’m never growing old

Never

Now I never cry at night

But kids only ever play outside

Forever

We built the air

We built the sky

We are the birds

And we fly high

We built the sun

We built the stars

We built kingdoms

In the car

But growing into butterflies

Doesn't mean we have to fly

We’re never too old to cry

The monsters are always there at night

With our heads in the clouds

We will laugh and frown again

We are children

Everyone knows that kids don’t sleep

And every time they do

It ain’t nothing but dreams

Every where we go kids are dreaming up

The very things we wish

Life really was
