Kids to Adults

As kids we thought we knew it all,

but now there are more things we don’t recall.

The older we got the more we learned,

But the more we learned the more we were concerned.

We were taught manners and how to behave,

But as teenagers we just messed around all day.

Parents are scared that their kids are dead,

While the 1-year-old baby is in bed,

Calling out others and skipping school,

While adults look at us like we’re all fools.

Taking explicit pictures and smoking weed,

And leaving your girl after you give her your seed.

Stealing, killing, mugging, fighting,

Trying to be smart and now your lying.

Kids are scared to walk at night,

While the people we trust ruin our life.

Glossing over Jordans, shirts, and shoes,

While others are filling their face with booze.

Telling yourself you want to die,

While others help you but you desperately call out their lies.

Parents try to help, talking to us and holding our hands,

But we decide to yell and say you’d never understand.

But you're a kid, you know nothing,

You’re right, but at least I’m not in the streets puffing.

I was a good kid once, I’m not trying to brag

But one thing that wasn’t perfect is that I didn’t have a dad.

Growing up as a kid was honestly bad,

Because in middle school I lost my grandad.

Screaming, crying, and acting out of strife,

I sat alone and tried to take my life.

My mom stepped in and helped me,

And because she gave up everything for me, I felt so happy.

But life went on and things got worse,

I started to fight, lie, complain, and curse.

But one day I looked in the mirror and stood in silence,

And realized that one sweet little boy

changed because of the conflict and violence.

And still, I’m not perfect and you aren’t too,

So don’t make fun of others and say boo hoo.

We once were kids and life was great,

But we all changed when we were

introduced to corruption and hate.

We can love, hate, laugh, and cry,

But things will never get better unless we try.

So let's take a second and put things to a halt,

And let’s all transform from kids into Adults
