King of Hearts

Hearts, I eat them. My diet is a steady, stable regimen, consisting of two and one half human hearts a day. I used to be normal, eat normally. Like any other person. But once puberty came along, I became the heart eater. Boys and girls, throwing themselves at me and I took them all in. They all wanted something from me that grows in the heart, & surely, I began to break theirs. My father once told me that people can die of broken hearts, but I was not out to prove his proverbial point. In fact, in trying to disprove his point, I only made it a verified verity that came true every time. I love you. I love you. And like that, I take everything they have. Like a thief. I sell their soul and limbs to the weeping reaper, who follows close by my side and kisses them at the moment of heart shatter. He’s become my new best friend, there when I need him to clean up the mess that my voracious appetite left behind. Now, I warn all potential suitors to calm down, take a few steps back & think before tripping into love with me. Not only will I break your beating blood muscle, it will be my dinner or breakfast. Pray for anyone who dares love the king of hearts.
