The King of Hearts
The Queen's foul temper
Is not quite a mystery.
Her beheadings have been embedded
In literary history.
But the King of Hearts
Is where the trail of secrets lead
For what he breaks is far more valuable
And only those with hearts
Can bleed.
He lives in the shadows
The court never notices he's gone,
In his chambers for days
As time goes on.
A sweet young woman
Through his window she stands
A smile across her face
Intertwined are their hands.
And days pass on
Still she smiles at the sun
But bored grows the King
And soon he is done.
He returns to his throne
And looks out to the lawn
Where lies the heart of a girl
Who will never again
Smile at the dawn.
His hands strong and cool
Enticing free hearts
Until he tears them out hard
And they lose that part.
What's been stolen from them
can never be returned,
Love is a flame
And the King of Hearts
Never gets burned.♥
