King But Not Arthur
This is a legend of a king, but Arthur wasn’t his name
But our journey and struggles, were much same
The East Atlanta slums, is where a royal was made
A land where carelessness is a quick way to the grave
Disconnected identity because my people were slaves
Back in the 1700s, and the modern days
Being an artist in this land, was something that's rare
But I was judged for this gift cause of the skin I wear
Isolated cause society threw me inside a box
Telling the black king, that you're only a jock
When I pulled the sword from stone, it meant a hero was born
Excalibur gave me the powers to cut through scorn
But I felt being a king carried too much weight
I took the weapon I had and through into a lake
Suddenly, before my eyes a lake maiden appeared
"Rise, cause as a king, you must face your fears
Not worrying what someone thinks, is liberation
With the power of the sword you can free this nation"
Gave me the sword, her words came to an end
Excalibur was my weapon; I had a gift for the pen
To my knights of the table, you can be who are
If you aim your dreams high, then you’ll still be in the stars
I was empty inside, living my life to please others
Using the gift that I found, I help my sisters and brothers
With the heart of a lion, my passion’s fierce and bold
You can attack with your words, but can’t pierce my soul
I have a future and destiny which is mine to play
My mind on that keeps me going each day
So, with a smile on my face, my aura’s bright as chrome
I am a king but not Arthur, and I’m taking the throne
