A Kiss for the Dead
I heard you screaming
The echoes took my breath away
I watched you dreaming
Seemingly twitching
Tossing, turning, yearning for desires
Lying beneath the surface of a burning heart
Lit afire by the lies told to dry your dying eyes
Sobbing sweetly into the night
Hold her gently, close and tight
Try and comfort her bleeding soul
Torn open by a blade
Harshly tearing away into your skin
Over and over again
I had passion for your pain
I belonged to your sorrow
With no personal gain
I once witnessed the tender heartbreak
Of a forgotten kiss
She waits and waits for the return of sin
To bite back into the reaping words of the lies within
No surrender bears the gracious reward
Of the torture she’s longing to endure
A belief held closely to a memory
Maybe one, two, or even three
A day without life, without you
Speaks of an eternity
But why relive what was never to stay
Holding on to the rope of misery brings her gloomy peace
A struggle she loves to hate
A curse laced with hopefulness
Only in exchange for hopelessness
Tragically I miss her face
I don’t know where she’s run off to
But I know it’s no place safe
Wherever, whenever, if I ever see her again
I’ll kiss her cheek, then her forehead, and say
My darling, forever my dead friend
