Knee deep in scars and no stars

Streaks of white color her hair, And they mark her wisdom. Wrinkles burn the edges of her dark, daring, eyes, And they mark the subtlety of her fire. We share blood. Flames dance while the flickering Embers fall into the ring of ashes surrounding them. Shadows cower behind the red and orange. We watch hand in hand. My empty, right fist leaves my side And in seconds, the black grains picked up from the ground is carried back into the flames As the pale, light skin of my palm reveals its face to the midnight blue sky. My tears sizzle upon touching the dirt, The ashes scream in objection. I stand in defiance. I stand in doubt. I stand behind the flames. I stand upon those ashes. I stand with one hand holding onto her warmth. The other hand is waiting for someone to take it. Never let go.
