The Knight

Mom you fought monsters

from under my bed.

You fought the demons

roaming around my head.

I remember the stories

of the princess and knights

and of their courageous fights.

That doesn’t really happen to us.

They tell us we are the

damsels in distress

saying we need to plea for help

but mom,

you taught me to not back down

to get up from the ground

you taught me to care for my own

that’s something that had been drilled to my bones

you taught me to fight for what is right

and that I don’t need a knight.

You even taught me how to cook

and learn recipes not shown in books.

I look up to you mom

and I thank you for everything.
