Know No Limits

They say roses are red and violets are blue

but they can be many colors. Why limit them to two?

Limitation is a flaw that every person can hold.

One mistake can ruin your life, that's what I've been told.

Because of those words, I thought I understood

that if I played it safe and did what others wanted, my life would be good.

I compare men to the roses, either a strange color or perfectly red.

Growing up, the image of being happy with roses of red were put into my head.

At the age of seventeen my heart was thriving for love.

So when I met someone who paid me attention, all I could do was thank the heavens above.

When I thought I was in love, I was a little too open-minded.

I worked so hard to meet his expectations, our love became one-sided.

He would make me feel dumb when I was wrong and even dumber when I was right

and when I expressed my feelings, all we would do is fight.

Eventually I stopped sharing my feelings and crying every night became the norm.

He influenced my every decision, my own opinion was impossible to form.

After a while, I realized that we were not meant to be

but the thought of him being the best I could ever have was an obstacle for me.

I pondered leaving him because, for me, I thought it was best,

however, throwing away a long-lasting relationship was a difficult test.

One day I started thinking about the strange colored roses.

If there was a chance of being happier with one of them, who cares about who opposes?

Finally, I realized that I had no limits and I had to do what I would benefit from most.

I freed myself from the toxicity of his love and felt invincible almost.

The moral of this story is that you should never settle for less

just because you have been taught that there are people out there you need to impress.
