Know Your World

This world, an ocean of human consciousness

Populated by a sea of experiences and viewpoints

Just as there are countless fish in the depths,

Where does one thought end and another begin?

For our brothers across borders still struggle

With dirt-caked fingers

While others sink into their mattresses

Allowing lazed time to linger

This disparity between worlds

Is a mountain separating oceans

To bridge these waters is to stop

And consider life on the other side

What I'd change in the minds of men

Is to look past their enclosed world,

Realize, empathize, and visualize

A separate life unfurled

Abstain from your wall-mounted screens

That cook your mind to smithereens

Stand where you are and step to the door

Open that mind, search for more

Read of the world

Light a spark in your brain

To engluf the sea

With knowledgeable flames

Make no assumptions

On your intolerable brothers

For their misdemeanors

At root, may hide themselves sufferers

And while children starve

And soldiers fall

Know that their endeavors

Are but a call

Justice, peace

Understanding for all

Take the first step

Break down those walls

That divide us from ourselves

Empathy, my brothers, sisters,

Know the term well

A change so simple

To put into motion

Too readily forgone,

Can ignite an ocean

For a more radiant dawn.
