La Vie
La Vie
I. Rose Period
Time has
spread us apart.
You are somewhere
picking pink peonies
for another woman,
sculpted by Michelangelo,
her curves chiseled and smoothed,
breast molded to perfection,
stomach flattened with delicate fingers.
Her honey skin painted by Velazquez,
radiating an artificial glow
in every room she enters.
II. Blue Period
You left me
with Picasso, lost
in his blue painting.
my anger
is dirty gypsies nesting in the trees
calling out your name,
I hear them
when they’re silent
I hear them
my love
prostitutes who
wear your face—
blue eyes,
full lips, long nose
my pain
is beggars buried underground,
their pleas free sadness
fingers interlocking,
faces in necks,
my face clinging to your cheeks—
my hope whispers
say it
“I am lonely here”
mean it
“I am alone”
