LABELS

I hate labels
why do we need them
so badly
as a society
as individuals
they separate us
they divide
they categorize
why are they so important
you ask for my race
my ethnicity
I choose "no comment"
I don't want that label
don't need it
why should it matter
let's be color blind
and label-less
for peace sake
for unity
labels breed division and hatred
it makes me sick
and enrages me
the words of your tongue
so unkind
can't you keep your venom to yourself
it doesn't matter
you think you're better
you think privilege should only equal white
have you forgotten
do you need a reminder
when we bleed
it all runs beautifully
blood red
no matter the level of melanin
why do we let our shade gauge our
pride and prejudice
I wish freedom could be
our reality
