The Lake

Their daughter had eyes,

Bright as a lake of blue

As the sun rose and shone bright.

And she laughed.

And she smiled

At her father's stupid jokes

And her brother's friends.

Their daughter grew up

And fell in love

With a boy who hated everything about her.

And she kissed on the first date.

And she went all the way

With anyone who wanted to.

And she cried when she was alone.

Their daughter wore revealing clothes.

So all the boys could see

The only thing she had to offer.

And her eyes were no longer bright

Like a lake of blue

Under the shining sun.
